Educators for Maine Scholarship provides forgivable loans to residents of Maine who are interested in attending college in any state to prepare for a career as a teacher.

Requirements

This program is open to residents of Maine who are graduating high school seniors, currently-enrolled full-time undergraduates, or students accepted into a graduate program on at least a half-time basis.

Applicants must be enrolled or planning to enroll at a college or university in any state in a program leading to certification as a teacher, including speech pathology or child care.

They must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Selection is based on academic performance, relevant activities, awards and special honors, and an essay; financial need is not considered.

Preference is given to applicants planning to teach an underserved subject area.

Undergraduate recipients must attend school on a fulltime basis, but post-baccalaureate students and teachers are not required to enroll full-time.
