Harry C. Bates U.S. Scholarship provides financial assistance to children of members of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) who wish to work on a college degree.

Requirements

This program is open to the children (natural or legally adopted) of members of the union.

U.S. students must take the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test (PSAT/NMSQT) during their junior year in high school.

Students will be notified in September of their senior year if their PSAT/NMSQT results qualify them as a semifinalist.

Union members whose children qualify must report this information to the union.

The union then sends the names of eligible candidates to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

The recipient of the scholarship competition is chosen by NMSC.

Selection is based on academic achievements, records, community involvement, volunteerism, and an essay.
