Iowa Thespian Scholarship provides financial assistance to high school seniors in Iowa who are interested in attending college in any state to prepare for a career in theater communications or theater education.

Requirements
  • This program is open to seniors graduating from high schools in Iowa who are members of the International Thespian Society.
  • Applicants must be planning to attend college in any state to major in a field related to communication arts (theater, film, speech, radio and television, broadcasting, music, or dance) or theater education.
  • Students applying as a performer must present a solo audition at the Iowa Thespian Festival consisting of a 2minute monologue, 2 contrasting 1-minute monologues, a 2-minute song, or 1 song and 1 monologue.
  • Students applying as a technician must present a 5minute PowerPoint demonstration of their expertise in technical theater, accompanied by a portfolio of their work.
  • Students applying as theater educators must submit 1page essays on 2 of the following topics: 1) their most inspirational teacher; 2) why they want to be a theater teacher, or 3) what they feel is the most important issue facing high school theater today.
  • All applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Financial need is not considered in the selection process.
  • There is a $20 application fee.
