United Steelworkers District 1 Women of Steel Scholarship provides financial assistance to children of members of United Steelworkers (USW) in its District 1 who are high school seniors planning to attend college in any state.

Requirements

This program is open to high school seniors who are the children, stepchildren, or legal wards of USW members in its District 9 (which serves Ohio).

Dependents of members who retired within the past 7 years are also eligible.

Applicants must be planning to enroll at a college, university, or trade/technical institute in any state.

They must have a GPA of 2.8 or higher.

As part of the application process, they must interview an official of their parent's union local and then write a 1page essay on why that official got involved in the local union and why they chose the local union position they hold.

Selection is based on the essay's topic, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
