This program is open to high school seniors to plan to major in an agricultural field at an accredited college or university.
Applicants must submit an essay of 850 to 1,200 words on a topic that changes annually but relates to agriculture; recently, students were invited to write on how marketing production with other farmers and ranchers can improve prices for grain, dairy, and livestock, and how niche marketing, risk management, and price negotiation can impact the prices that producers receive.
Selection is based on plans for the future, involvement in agriculture, high school activities and honors, and community activities and honors; financial need is not considered.
