Richard T. Nuske Memorial Scholarship recognizes and rewards high school seniors in Wisconsin who submit outstanding essays based on an interview of a Vietnam veteran, especially if the veteran is a relative.

Requirements
  • This competition is open to seniors graduating from high schools in Wisconsin who plan to attend an accredited institution of higher education in any state.
  • Applicants must submit an essay, from 3 to 5 pages in length, based on an interview of a veteran of any branch who served on active duty anywhere in the world during the Vietnam War (from January 1, 1959, to May 7, 1975).
  • Essays are judged on originality, appearance, and elements of grammar; up to 35 points may be awarded, depending on the quality of the essay.
  • An additional 10 points are awarded if the student is the child or grandchild of the veteran; an additional 5 points are awarded if the student is another relative (niece, cousin) of the veteran.
