United Steelworkers District 1 Women of Steel Scholarship provides financial assistance to children of members of United Steelworkers (USW) in its District 1 who are high school seniors planning to attend college in any state.

Requirements
  • This program is open to high school seniors who are the children, stepchildren, or legal wards of USW members in its District 9 (which serves Ohio).
  • Dependents of members who retired within the past 7 years are also eligible.
  • Applicants must be planning to enroll at a college, university, or trade/technical institute in any state.
  • They must have a GPA of 2.8 or higher.
  • As part of the application process, they must interview an official of their parent's union local and then write a 1page essay on why that official got involved in the local union and why they chose the local union position they hold.
  • Selection is based on the essay's topic, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
