Leslie A. Ebert Legacy of Life Scholarship recognizes and rewards, with college scholarships, high school seniors in the Washington, D.C. area who submit outstanding essays or videos on organ, eye, and tissue donations.

Requirements
  • These competitions are open to high school seniors in the District of Columbia; the Virginia counties of Arlington, Clarke, Fairfax, Fauquier, King George, Loudoun, Prince William, Spotsylvania, and Stafford; the Virginia cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Fredericksburg, Manassas, and Manassas Park; and the Maryland counties of Charles, Montgomery, and Prince George's.
  • Applicants must submit an essay, up to 1,000 words in length, or a video, up to 2 minutes in length.
  • Entries must be a persuasive argument to convince an audience to register as organ, eye, and tissue donors; they must include at least 2 citations.
  • Selection is based on originality, persuasiveness, passion for the argument, proper grammar and spelling, adherence to the topic, and citations of correct information.
  • Grammar and spelling are also considered for essays.
  • Video quality and the number of "likes" on the sponsor's Facebook page is also considered for videos.
