From the Institution

Founded in 1843 by the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Clarke University is located near the Mississippi River in Dubuque, Iowa. The University believes learning is lifelong and life-changing. Our community inspires intellectual curiosity, cultural engagement, professional preparedness, spiritual exploration, and a commitment to contributing to the common good in a global society. This is expressed through our core values of education, charity, freedom, and justice, which guide how we interact with one another and our community. Academic offerings include over 50 undergraduate majors and minors, 10 pre-professional programs, seven graduate degree programs, and the CareerPLUS professional development micro course program. As you pursue your studies, you'll enjoy a blend of historic spaces that inspire alongside modern labs with specialized equipment and tools that allow you to explore the future of what's possible. Learning at Clarke also takes you beyond the classroom through internships, classroom visits and other student work experiences at Fortune 500 companies and non-profit organizations alike, giving you a well-rounded wealth of knowledge employers are looking for. You can explore your passions outside the classroom as well through our student clubs and organizations. From health and wellness to culture and inclusion, there are groups dedicated to fostering your personal and professional growth. All this aligns with the Clarke Compass, which helps catalog your experiences to help share them with prospective employers or graduate schools in the future. As a part of our One Clarke, One Community, you can make a positive impact off campus as well. Our students and alumni have been involved in everything from painting city-wide murals celebrating the diversity and history of Dubuque, to supporting local wildlife and conservation efforts, and hundreds of other volunteer opportunities. A limit of 350 words can't fully capture over 150 years of excellence in education, dedication to community, and a desire to achieve great things.
