The University offers extensive experiential learning opportunities, including service learning, study abroad, internships, collaborative student/faculty research, and student teaching. Students benefit from such unique facilities as the 470-acre Claytor Nature Study Center, a cadaver lab, the Belk astronomical observatory, the Drysdale Student Center, and Schewel Hall (featuring the latest technology for communication studies, business, and modern languages programs). In 2021, the University of Lynchburg became the first college or university in the commonwealth to achieve carbon neutrality.
