The University of Notre Dame, an independent Catholic university founded in 1842 by a priest of the Congregation of the Holy Cross, is ranked among the top 20 national institutions of higher learning and offers more than 70 majors within the College of Arts and Letters, the College of Engineering, the College of Science, Mendoza College of Business, the School of Architecture, and the Keough School of Global Affairs.
