Hampshire College is a small, 4-year, private liberal arts college. This coed college is located in a large town in a rural setting and is primarily a residential campus. It offers bachelor's degrees.

From the Institution

Founded in 1965 as an alternative to standard higher education, Hampshire College is a private, non-profit liberal arts college located in rural Western Massachusetts. With class sizes ranging from 250 to 350 and a student/faculty ratio of 9:1, Hampshire students are guided closely by esteemed and expert faculty members as they pursue their individual questions, generate original research, and prepare to make lasting impact. Hampshire is in the top 2% of institutions that produce graduates going on to earn Ph.D.s, and 23% of graduates go on to start their own businesses or nonprofits. Hampshire is also a member of the Five College Consortium, allowing students to take advantage of classes, student groups, professors, and other resources at four other unique institutions: Smith, Mount Holyoke, and Amherst Colleges and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. A vast majority (88%) of Hampshire students take at least one class within the Consortium, allowing for deeper exploration and experimentation within - or outside of - one's chosen area of study. With narrative evaluations in place of grades, a truly open curriculum, and self-designed courses of study (AKA majors), Hampshire students have the freedom and agency to make their education, not just take it.
