Requirements
  • This competition is open to seniors at high schools in New Jersey whose nominating language teacher is a member of Foreign Language Educators of New Jersey (FLENJ).
  • Nominated students first submit an essay that requires them to use the language they are studying to respond to prompts prepared for the competition each year.
  • Based on those essays, semifinalists are selected to participate in an oral interview by telephone.
  • The combined essay and interview scores determine the winners.
