Requirements
  • This program is open to Illinois residents who are enrolled or planning to enroll at an Illinois 4-year public institution of higher education to prepare for a career as a public, private, or parochial elementary or secondary school teacher in the state.
  • Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students seeking certification in an area of special education.
  • They must rank in the upper half of their Illinois high school graduating class.
  • Current teachers who have a valid teaching certificate that is not in the discipline of special education are also eligible.
  • Selection of high school seniors is based on ACT or SAT scores; selection of current college students and teachers returning to school to study special education is determined in a lottery.
  • U.S. citizenship or eligible noncitizenship status (including undocumented students) is required.
