Iowa Thespian Scholarship provides financial assistance to high school seniors in Iowa who are interested in attending college in any state to prepare for a career in theater communications or theater education.

Requirements

This program is open to seniors graduating from high schools in Iowa who are members of the International Thespian Society.

Applicants must be planning to attend college in any state to major in a field related to communication arts (theater, film, speech, radio and television, broadcasting, music, or dance) or theater education.

Students applying as a performer must present a solo audition at the Iowa Thespian Festival consisting of a 2minute monologue, 2 contrasting 1-minute monologues, a 2-minute song, or 1 song and 1 monologue.

Students applying as a technician must present a 5minute PowerPoint demonstration of their expertise in technical theater, accompanied by a portfolio of their work.

Students applying as theater educators must submit 1page essays on 2 of the following topics: 1) their most inspirational teacher; 2) why they want to be a theater teacher, or 3) what they feel is the most important issue facing high school theater today.

All applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Financial need is not considered in the selection process.

There is a $20 application fee.
