MathWorks Math Modeling Challenge Scholarship recognizes and rewards, with college scholarships, teams of high school students who submit outstanding solutions to mathematical problems.

Requirements
  • This competition is open to teams of 3 to 5 juniors and seniors (including international and exchange students) from each high school in the United States, including its territories and DoDEA schools.
  • Each high school may select 2 teams to compete.
  • On Challenge Weekend, teams download a mathematics problem and then have 14 hours in which to solve it and submit their solution to the judges.
  • Teams are allowed to use computers, software packages, books, reference works, or any other inanimate sources, but may not seek or obtain assistance from any other human source.
  • The judges then select the top 6 teams to appear in person in New York City to present their solutions.
  • Judges then rank those teams in order to receive the team prizes.
  • Judges also select, at their discretion, semifinalist teams whose papers were among the topranked and underwent in-depth specific discussion but missed making it into the top 6.
  • Honorable mentions are awarded to teams whose papers are judged to be worthy of recognition.
  • All entries that use programming platforms to analyze, design, and conceive a solution for the problem presented in the Challenge are considered for M3 Technical Computing Scholarship Awards.
