American Petroleum Institute San Joaquin Valley Chapter Scholarship provides financial assistance to high school seniors and college students from Kern County, California who plan to attend college in any state to prepare for a career in the petroleum industry.

Requirements

This program is open to graduating high school seniors and current full-time college students who are either residents of Kern County or attending a college in that county.

Applicants must be preparing for a career in the petroleum industry or a closelyrelated field.

They must submit a 200word essay describing how their course of studies related to the energy, oil, and gas industry, their role after graduation, and their intended contributions to the industry.

They must also submit 500word essays on 2 of the following topics: 1) the actions they plan to take to demonstrate their commitment to supporting the energy industry and the issues that are affecting oil and natural gas development; 2) a comparison of the United States to Saudi Arabia and Russia in oil and gas production capabilities; or 3) how oil industry codes and standards, with state and federal regulations, support workforce safety and promote environmental stewardship.

Financial need is not considered in the selection process.
