The Cal Grant A is available to students attending any University of California, California State University, California Community College, or any qualifying independent colleges within the state. Students who are planning to pursue an associate or bachelor's degree are welcome to apply. Recipients are chosen for their demonstration of financial need.

Requirements
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA as a high school senior or 2.4 as transferring college student
  • Resident of California (minimum 1 year)
  • Seeking an associate or bachelor's degree
  • Attending or planning to attend the University of California, California State University, California Community College, or any qualifying independent college in California.
  • U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or permanent resident, **or**
  • AB540 student
  • Income ceiling for dependent students and independent students with dependents other than a spouse of $112,900 with 2 family members, rising to $145,200 with 6 or more family members
  • For independent students, income ceiling of $52,700 for married students with no dependents other than a spouse or $46.000 for single students
  • Asset ceiling of $97,200 for dependent students or $46,200 for independent students.
  • Have registered with the U.S. Selective Service
  • Not have a bachelor's or professional degree
  • Not owe a refund on any state or federal grant or be in default on a student loan
  • Not be incarcerated
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress standards as established by the school
  • Students who do not receive a Cal Grant A Entitlement Award may apply for a Cal GrantA Competitive Award
