The Chafee Grant for Foster Youth is available to students who are currently or have been in foster care for at least one day between the ages of 16-18. Students who are planning to attend a vocational/technical, or 2-4 year college or university are eligible to apply. Recipients are chosen for their demonstration of financial need.

Requirements
  • Current or former foster youth for at least one day between the ages of 16 and 18
  • Graduating high school senior or current college student
  • Seeking a professional certification, associate, or bachelor's degree from any qualifying institution in any state that is eligible for participation in the Cal Grant Program
  • Aged 26 or younger
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Have not participated in the program for more than 5 years
