Requirements

This program is open to residents of Connecticut whose first language is not English.

Awards are presented in 4 categories: 1) high school seniors entering a 2year college; 2) high school seniors entering a 4-year college or university; 3) high school seniors who are presently or were previously enrolled in English Language Learning (ELL) or bilingual education classes and entering a 2- or 4-year college or university (designated the CAPELL Scholarship for its sponsor, the Connecticut Administrators of Programs for English Language Learners); and 4) adult education students entering a college or university.

Applicants must submit an essay of 250 to 500 words on how learning English has influenced their lives and their future plans.
