Division Commander's Hip Pocket Scholarship enables soldiers who are nominated by their Division Commanding General to obtain an early discharge from the Army and return to college to participate in the Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC).

Requirements
  • Enlisted soldiers who have served at least 2 but less than 10 years on active duty are eligible for this program.
  • They must be nominated by their Division Commanding General to obtain an early discharge in order to enroll in a baccalaureate degree program.
  • Nominees must have a cumulative high school or college GPA of 3.0 or higher, a score of at least 21 on the ACT or 1100 on the SAT, a General Technical (GT) score of 110 or higher, and an Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) score of 270 or higher, including 90 in each event.
  • They may not have a spouse who is also in the military or dependent children under 18 years of age (those requirements may be waived).
  • Waivers may be granted to applicants who have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, scores of 19 on the ACT or 1000 on the SAT, and APFT scores of 180, including 60 in each event.
  • At the time they graduate and are commissioned, they must be under 31 years of age.
  • Selection is made by the Division Commanding General; no additional review is made by Cadet Command Headquarters.
  • Upon graduation from college, scholarship winners are commissioned as second lieutenants and are required to serve in the military for 8 years. That obligation may be fulfilled by serving 4 years on active duty followed by 4 years in the Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR).
