Health Professions Preparatory Scholarship provides financial assistance to Native American students who need compensatory or pre-professional education to qualify for enrollment in a health professions school.

Requirements
  • This program is open to American Indians and Alaska Natives who are members or descendants of members of state- or federally-recognized tribes.
  • Applicants must be high school graduates or the equivalent; have the capacity to complete a health professions course of study, and be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a compensatory or preprofessional general education course or curriculum.
  • The qualifying fields of study may vary annually, but recently they included prenursing (for courses leading to a B.S. degree in nursing), pre-pharmacy (for courses leading to a Pharm.D. degree), pre-social work (for juniors and seniors preparing for an M.S. degree in social work), and pre-clinical psychology (for juniors and seniors).
  • They must intend to serve Indian people upon completion of their professional health care education as a health care provider in the discipline for which they are enrolled at the pregraduate level.
  • Selection is based on that narrative (30%); academic performance (40%); and faculty, employer, and tribal recommendations (30%).
