About the Scholarship

Opens: 12/12/2023
Closes: 2/29/2024

The Ian Doane Smith Memorial Scholarship is for high school seniors from the island of Maui who are active participants in soccer and/or surfing, and who are involved in community service. Applicants attending the University of Hawaii, Maui College, may also apply. Ian Doane Smith was raised on Maui, was a star HYSO player, and a four-year all-star soccer player at Maui High School. He was also an accomplished Maui big wave surfer and a dedicated youth soccer coach. Ian loved Maui and its young people. Following his death in 2004, his family proudly established this memorial scholarship to honor his memory and excellence in the two sports Ian loved—surfing and soccer. Special consideration is given to renewal applicants who have maintained a minimum 2.7 GPA.
