The James E. Horton, Jr. Angus Scholarship provides financial assistance to students, especially those from Alabama, who have been members of the National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) and are enrolled or planning to enroll in any field in college.

Requirements
  • Applicants must have been a member of the NJAA in the past and presently must be a junior, regular, or life member of the American Angus Association.
  • They must be either a high school senior or already enrolled in college working fulltime on an undergraduate degree with a GPA of 2.0 or higher and younger than 25 years of age.
  • First preference is given to Angus youth from Alabama.
  • All fields of study are eligible.
  • Selection is based on those essays; academic achievement; Angus competitive activities and involvement; Angus leadership activities; FFA, 4H, and other agricultural organization involvement; other high school or collegiate organization, community, civic, and church activities; an essay on their leadership potential, career goals, and ambitions for the future, especially how they will promote, advocate, and support the Angus breed and beef cattle industry in their plans; and general effect of the application.
