Requirements
  • This program is open to enrolled members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians who are enrolled or planning to enroll in formal undergraduate study.
  • Applicants must be interested in working on a 2 or 4-year degree while they also develop an individually designed plan of leadership learning, Cherokee culture, and community service.
  • The plan should be developed in coordination with an assigned mentor and may include attendance at national or international conferences or training workshops, summer community service or experiential learning activities, domestic or foreign travel, academic enrichment and tutoring programs, or leadership development training.
  • Selection is based primarily on leadership potential; financial need is not considered.
  • Fellows are expected to contribute at least 40 hours of unpaid community service each year. For the first 2 years, that service should be performed in the Cherokee Preservation Foundation's 7county service area.
