The Minority Teachers of Illinois Scholarship is available to students in Illinois pursuing an undergraduate or graduate level teaching license. Students who are planning to attend or are currently attending a 4-year college or university in Illinois are eligible to apply. Recipients of this scholarship should plan to teach at a nonprofit Illinois public, private or parochial preschool, elementary or secondary school at which no less than 30 percent of the enrolled students are minority students, in the year following college graduation.

Requirements
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA for college sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate students
  • Resident of Illinois
  • High school graduate or GED recipient
  • Seeking a bachelor's or graduate degree in teacher education
  • Attending or planning to attend a postsecondary institution in Illinois
  • U.S. citizen, U.S. national, permanent resident, or meet the undocumented student criteria of the RISE Act
  • African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American & Latino
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress
  • Comply with federal Selective Service registration requirements
  • Not be in default on any student loan, nor owe a refund on any state or federal grant
  • Not have previously received funds from the MTI Scholarship Program (4 years)
  • Not receive funds from the Illinois Special Education Teacher Tuition Waiver (SETTW) Program or the Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois Program during the same term(s) for which you receive funds from the MTI Scholarship Program
