Northland Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation Scholarship provides financial assistance to residents of designated counties in Minnesota and Wisconsin who are Vietnam veterans or relatives of those veterans and interested in studying a medical field at a college in any state.

Requirements
  • This program is open to residents of Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St.
  • Louis counties in Minnesota and Bayfield and Douglas counties in Wisconsin.
  • Applicants must be 1) a graduating high school senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who is the child, grandchild, niece, or nephew of a Vietnamera veteran and planning to study a medical field in college; or 2) a Vietnam veteran or relative of a veteran who has completed at least 26 academic credits in a medical field at an accredited college, university, or vocational/technical school and has a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • All applicants must be enrolled or planning to enroll fulltime.
  • Selection is based primarily on an essay, up to 500 words in length on a topic that changes annually but relates to the Vietnam war; recently, applicants were asked to write about how advancements in medicine during the war relate to their choice of a medical field and to conduct an interview of a veteran on how his medical needs have improved within the VA system.
