Sheet Metal Scholarship Programs provide financial assistance for undergraduate study to members of the former Sheet Metal Workers' International Association (SMWIA) within the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers (SMART), covered employees, and their immediate families.

Requirements
  • Eligible to apply for this program are active members of SMART's former SMWIA, covered employees, and dependent spouses and children of members or covered employees.
  • Children must be under 25 years of age.
  • Grandchildren are not eligible.
  • Applicants must be enrolled or planning to enroll full time at an accredited college or university.
  • They may be majoring in any field, but they must be undergraduate students.
  • For programs offered by the SMWI Scholarship Fund, the member must work for an employer that contributes the negotiated amount to the Fund and must maintain at least 150 hours worked in the preceding calendar year.
  • All applicants (including those for programs offered by the SMWI Scholarship Fund and those for programs offered by the SMWI Scholarship Foundation) must submit a letter of recommendation, transcripts (including SAT and/or ACT scores for high school seniors), and a 2page essay on the importance of SMART to them and their family.
