The Troy Barboza Educational Scholarship is to provide education and training assistance for public employees (and their dependents) who have been killed or injured in the line of duty. The employee's position must be one in which lives are risked for the protection of others (i.e. police officers, firefighters, lifeguards, etc.). Additionally, awards may also be used for Hawaii residents who have performed heroic or other noteworthy acts that provide for the protection and safety of others.

Requirements
  • Dependent (or immediate family member) of a Hawaii public employee killed or injured in the line of duty, OR a past or present public employee injured in the line of duty, **OR**
  • Performed a heroic act that provided for the protection and safety of others; the act must have occurred no more than one year prior to Troy Barboza's death (10/22/1987)
