Requirements

This contest is open to seniors graduating from high schools in Connecticut and planning to attend college in any state.

Applicants must submit an essay, up to 1,000 words in length, on 1 of the following topics: 1) a workplace hazard that they or a friend fact in parttime work, how it affects them or their friend, and what would be needed to correct the unsafe conditions; 2) how workers and their unions achieved worker protections in the past; or 3) the importance of organized labor to protecting worker safety.

Selection is based on content, originality, and clarity of vision.
