From the Institution

Nationally recognized for academic excellence and as an outstanding educational value, Berry is an independent, coeducational, comprehensive liberal arts college of approximately 2,200 students. For more than a century, the college has offered an exceptional education that balances intellectual exploration, practical learning, and character development. From its inception, Berry College has pursued a bold and distinctive approach to meeting the challenge of preparing students for life. Our entrepreneurial founder, Martha Berry, understood that intellectual skills and practical skills could be combined to powerful effect in shaping people known for their work ethic, integrity, resourcefulness and willingness to serve. Building on this foundation, Berry today combines challenging academics with character-enhancing and career-building practical experiences. The college's academic programs rival top residential universities in the region. Ninety percent of Berry students graduate having had at least two significant mentors. Beyond respected academics and expert teaching, Berry helps students create a four-year plan that purposefully integrates academic exploration, career preparation, professional development and personal growth through focused reflection. In exchange for all of this, Berry asks students to be active participants in their own educations-stepping up and pitching in. The college furthers our students' intellectual, moral and spiritual growth; proffers lessons that are gained from worthwhile work done well; and challenges them to devote their learning to community and civic betterment. It is Berry's goal to make an excellent private liberal-arts education accessible to talented students from a wide range of social and economic backgrounds.
