From the Institution

Founded in 1813, Colby College is one of the nation's premier liberal arts colleges, serving 2,400 undergraduates. Colby's academic programs, including 46 majors and 37 minors, are anchored to the world's most complex challenges. Colby's campus experience is built on a culture of shared success. Newly developed programs include computational biology, digital humanities, and the Davis Institute for Artificial Intelligence, the first such institute at a liberal arts college. Additionally, the College's wide variety of programs and labs provide students and the community access to unique experiences: the Colby College Museum of Art and the Lunder Institute for American Art have made the College a nationally and internationally recognized center for art scholarship; The Linde Packman Lab for Biosciences Innovation, and The Buck Lab for Climate and Environment provide students with hands on research in the sciences; and the 350,000-square-foot Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center, is the most advanced and comprehensive NCAA D-III facility in the country. In fall 2023, Colby opened the Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts, a 74,000-square-foot center that includes a multipurpose performance space and studios designed for creativity to nurture emerging art forms. Colby's Island Campus, consisting of Allen and Benner islands, gives Colby a significant presence on the coast of Maine for a wide range of academic programs and activities and undisturbed environments ideal for conducting interdisciplinary experiences. In September 2025, Colby received the largest gift of its history to develop a state-of-the-art science complex, which is scheduled to open in 2030. The world-class facility will anchor new programs in public health and targeted engineering disciplines such as biomedical, environmental, and materials engineering, and will empower students to tackle challenges through a unique blend of technical expertise and liberal arts problem-solving. Colby is committed to ensuring the most talented students from all backgrounds have access to the best possible education. Colby meets 100 percent of demonstrated financial need without loans. DavisConnects guarantees all students have access to at least one internship, research experience, and global experience related to their areas of interest during their time at Colby, and provides individual advising to all Colby students beginning in their first year. Colby has no application fee, no extra supplements to submit, and test scores are optional.
