For 98 years, Illinois Valley Community College and its predecessor LaSalle-Peru-Oglesby Junior College have served thousands of northcentral Illinois students. The college sits on a bluff overlooking the Illinois River about 10 miles downstream from Starved Rock State Park. Covering a 2,000-square-mile district, IVCC serves La Salle, Bureau and Putnam counties as well as small parts of five other counties. A downtown satellite campus was established in Ottawa in 2010. IVCC offers Associate in Arts (AA), Associate in Science (AS), and Associate in Engineering Studies (AES) in programs ranging from agriculture to theatre. IVCC also offers Associate in Applied Science Degrees (AAS) in many career and technical programs, including: accounting, agronomy, agricultural business management, automotive, business administration, CAD, computer networking, criminal justice, cybersecurity, dental assisting, dental hygiene, early childhood education, electronics and electricity, engineering, manufacturing, marketing, nursing, office professional, and welding. Certificates (less than 2 year degrees) are also available in cannabis production, medical assistant, certified nursing assistant, computer numerical control, HVAC, industrial maintenance, phlebotomy, paramedics, renewable energy, truck driver training, and more. Students can save up to $40,000 by attending IVCC for two years prior to transferring to a university. The college offers ten intercollegiate sports: men's and women's basketball, tennis and soccer as well as softball, baseball, volleyball and golf. Men's and women's cross country will be added in 2023. The state's second oldest community college, IVCC will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2024.
