From the Institution

Johnson & Wales University - an exceptional education that inspires professional success and lifelong personal and intellectual growth. Our progressive approach to learning dates back to our very beginning, when we were among the first postsecondary institutions founded by two women: Gertrude I. Johnson and Mary T. Wales. Since 1914, our goal has been for students to make the most of their learning experience, to bring out their potential and turn it into a career. We believe that open discussion is a valuable tool in sharing ideas and that hands-on learning out in the field better prepares students to thrive out in the world. This form of hands-on learning is known as "experiential education," and it's one of the cornerstones of the JWU experience. From the first day, you will be immersed in a career-focused curriculum specifically targeted to the field of your choice. Paired with a strong liberal arts balance, you'll learn core capabilities across a broad range of subjects that will ultimately prepare you to be a leader in the professional world. Want to design a clothing line? Start drawing. Want to cook an amazing meal? Get in the kitchen. Want to work in marketing? Pitch some clients. From competing in advertising competitions to snagging an internship at some of the biggest companies in the country, how you learn depends on what you want to learn. And how you thrive depends on how willing you are to work. Through education that takes you beyond the classroom, to industry connections that put students to work, we work just as hard as you do to turn your passion into a craft, and then bring that craft to the world.
