Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt), founded in 1873, has a legacy of leadership as the first freestanding public college of art and design in the country, and the nation's first art school to grant a degree. Offering a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate degrees in art, design and art education, the College prepares students from diverse backgrounds to participate in the creative and innovation economies, and to engage in the well-being of their society. Located in the heart of Boston, MassArt offers students a rich academic experience, complemented by access to the city's many museums and galleries. As a resource to the residents of Massachusetts and beyond, MassArt offers a wide variety of free art-making activities, lecture series, and exhibitions for all ages and backgrounds through the MassArt Art Museum, the College's on-campus contemporary art museum; MassArt x SoWa, the off-campus gallery run by the graduate program; and the Center for Art and Community Partnerships.
