AP Credit Policy

McGill University grants advanced standing for Advanced Placement (AP) exams scores of 4 or 5, allowing students to earn up to 30 transfer credits depending on faculty rules. Students must declare all completed or planned AP exams on their application and send official scores directly from the College Board to McGill. While AP credits may exempt students from certain courses, these exemptions may not always satisfy specific program requirements, so students should confirm with their academic advisor. If a student receives an exemption but still takes the equivalent McGill course, they will not receive credit for it. Credit limits and rules vary by faculty: Engineering allows a maximum of 3 humanities/social science credits, Nursing allows up to 6 additional credits beyond core science subjects, and Science limits non-math/non-science AP credits to 18, with some exceptions such as AP Computer Science and AP Psychology.

Need Help Choosing a Major?

Keep in mind most colleges don’t require students to declare a major until the end of their sophomore year, and many students change majors at least once.
