The Nebraska Indian Community College, a 1994 Tribal Land Grant Institution serves the Umonhon Nation and Santee Sioux Tribal communities and other learners, since 1973. The mission of the Nebraska Indian Community College (NICC) is to provide quality higher education and lifelong educational opportunities for Umonhon (Omaha) and Isanti (Santee Dakota) students, as well as all learners. The NICC has three campus locations in Nebraska, two rural sites; Macy, Nebraska located on the Omaha Nation's reservation in Thurston County, and Santee, Nebraska located on the Santee Dakota's reservation in Knox County, and an urban campus located in South Sioux City, Nebraska on Dakota Avenue in Dakota County. In 2020, NICC also began collaborating with Pawnee Nation College in Pawnee, Oklahoma while they work towards their own accreditation. Nebraska Indian Community College (NICC), a Tribal College on the AIHEC roster, is a fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, is an open-admission and community-based institution. The college primarily serves Native American female students but is open to all learners. NICC does not have on campus housing, so all the students that attend commute from the surrounding communities. The college is small with a faculty to student ratio of 1:5.
