Northwestern Oklahoma State University is a dynamic three-campus, public regional university serving approximately 2,000 students. The main campus is located in Alva, with branch campuses located in Enid and Woodward. The University is one of six regional universities governed by the Regional University System of Oklahoma. The main campus is located in Alva, a community of about 5,500 residents and the county seat of Woods County. The community features a safe, relaxed lifestyle and a business community focused on serving students. Three state parks are located within 40 miles of Alva, and the community features a growing arts district and a number of special events and festivals. The community has a long history of support for Northwestern, including a municipal sales tax that funds scholarships to the University. Northwestern features approximately 40 undergraduate degree programs and offers graduate degrees in education, counseling psychology and American studies. Programs in nursing, education, business and social work have highly sought-after specialized accreditations. A doctoral program in advanced nursing practice is scheduled to begin in the fall semester of 2017. The University has received national recognition for affordability and low student debt, with more than half of its graduates leaving with no debt. Campus life is anchored by dozens of clubs and organizations, a Greek system, intramural athletics, and numerous entertainment events and activities. A complete renovation of the main campus dining hall and two dormitories provide a comfortable living environment for on-campus students.
