Skidmore is a nationally ranked liberal arts college with an enrollment of 2,665 students from more than 40 states and 60 countries (25% are domestic students of color, 9% international, 12% first-generation collegians). The faculty-student ratio is 8:1. The College's 1,200-acre campus is located near the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in Saratoga Springs, New York, a city rich in history and culture. Distinguished by an interdisciplinary curriculum balanced in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities, Skidmore offers 42 majors; popular disciplines include business, psychology, English, economics, political science, studio art, and environmental sciences/studies. Everything we do at Skidmore is driven by our belief that Creative Thought Matters, an inclusive philosophy that takes work and vulnerability. But our community puts in the work because we believe exposure to different perspectives is one of the most challenging and profound ways to expand your future. Our rigorous academic program begins with the First-Year Experience, which integrates the curricular and cocurricular and gets students involved in the life of the community from day one. Some 50% of Skidmore students study abroad, 85% complete one or more internships, many funded, and 60% have completed or are enrolled in grad or professional school within five years of graduation. Skidmore offers 19 varsity sports and nearly 120 student clubs. More than 400 students are varsity athletes and approximately 1,000 students participate in civic engagement projects, clubs or programs each year. In terms of facilities, the award-winning Arthur Zankel Music Center features a 600-seat, glassed-in performance hall and a state-of-the-art recording studio. Opened in 2021, the Wycoff Center reaffirms the College's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and includes classroom, performance, and meeting spaces. Already in use, the Billie Tisch Center for Integrated Sciences will be completed in 2024. The McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center, which brings together all aspects of student health and wellness, will open in 2025. In 2023, Skidmore received over 12,000 applications for a first-year class targeted at more than 700. Twenty-three percent were offered admission and nearly 50% enrolled through Early Decision. Seventy-million dollars in financial aid is provided annually.
