From the Institution

Founded in 1795, Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. is one of the oldest liberal arts colleges in the country. But Union isn't just our name. It's who we are. We're a union in every way imaginable. A union of the humanities, engineering, arts and sciences. A union of students from different backgrounds who take chances. A union between the world of today and the world of tomorrow. And most of all, a union of people with bright minds and courageous hearts. We are guided by a bold and enduring vision: to develop every student to lead with wisdom, empathy and courage, in ways large and small, now and across multiple tomorrows. Students merge their interests by pursuing multiple academic areas and conducting vibrant research often at the intersection of disciplines. They enjoy small classes, connect directly with faculty and have access to all of our state-of-the-art facilities including the Feigenbaum Center for the Visual Arts and the Integrated Science and Engineering Complex. Union students think and act locally and globally through internships, fellowships, community service and studying abroad. Nearly all students live on campus for four years, and they engage in campus life through 130 clubs/organizations and athletics (24 division III teams plus Division I men and women's ice hockey). During their time in Schenectady, students enjoy a vibrant, close-knit campus community with the resources of a small city. The downtown area is a 10-minute walk from campus and is home to 50+ restaurants, shops, theaters and more. Our location also offers many opportunities for skiing and outdoor recreation. Bus and train stations are within walking distance of campus and provide a gateway to Boston, Montreal and New York City (all approximately three hours from Schenectady). Albany International Airport is only a 20-minute drive away.
