University of Missouri: Columbia is a very large, 4-year, public university. This coed college is located in a city in a suburban setting and is primarily a residential campus. It offers bachelor's, certificate, master's, and doctoral degrees.
From the Institution
Founded in 1839 as the first public university west of the Mississippi River, Mizzou is a member of the Association of American Universities, the nation's most prestigious group of research institutions. Mizzou is one of only thirty-six public universities in the AAU. The National Science Foundation has recognized Mizzou as one of the top ten universities in the country for integrating research into undergraduate education, and Mizzou offers twelve major undergraduate research programs, some with freshmen participants. Mizzou is nestled in the heart of downtown Columbia, Missouri. Galleries, concert halls, theaters, shops, festivals and restaurants are all just steps from campus, making it hard to tell where campus ends and downtown begins. Students get right into the mix at Mizzou with the Missouri Method. This hands-on learning methodology is central to students' learning experiences. They'll be reporting news live on the local NBC TV station, making ice cream, healing animals, trading stocks and teaching kindergarteners. There are more than 600 student organizations to belong to, and more than 300 degree programs for students to choose from. If a degree program doesn't quite meet a student's needs, they have the option of creating their own.
