From the Institution

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire prepares students to succeed in a connected world influenced by global economic and social forces. It is UW-Eau Claire's goal that before graduation, every student experience at least one of the meaningful hands-on learning opportunities that set us apart - including study abroad, internships, domestic or international cultural immersion programs, and faculty-student research. Ranked eighth among the top public regional universities in the Midwest for 2021 by U.S. News & World Report. Our students earn top-level honors, including Rhodes, Truman and Goldwater scholarships. Over the past decade, 28 UW-Eau Claire students have received prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Program awards - more than double the number from any other master's-level public university in Wisconsin or Minnesota. UW-Eau Claire was named by the Council on Undergraduate Research as the top master's-level university in the country in providing excellent undergraduate research programs. By their senior year, more than 40 percent of students have worked with faculty on research and other scholarly projects. UW-Eau Claire will host the National Conference on Undergraduate Research in 2023. Our highly respected music program features faculty and students who perform worldwide, and our Jazz Ensemble I has been honored eight times (most recently in 2018) with prestigious national Down Beat Magazine awards. UW-Eau Claire is among the top 20 master's-level schools nationwide in the overall number of students it sends abroad, and is the only master's-level school in Wisconsin or Minnesota in that group. Students also have meaningful domestic cultural immersion experiences, ranging from civil rights pilgrimages in the South to volunteer work in Wisconsin tribal schools to research in Western mountain ranges. UW-Eau Claire is one of just a handful of public regional universities in the country - and the only one in Wisconsin - to include service-learning as a graduation requirement. The Princeton Review included UW-Eau Claire as one of just two UW System regional universities on its 2020 list of "academically outstanding" Best Midwestern Colleges. In 2020, UW-Eau Claire was one of just three UW System schools with a five-star (the highest possible) rating in the Campus Pride Index.
