From the Institution

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has been at the forefront of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education for more than 150 years, with humanities and business studies ensuring a broad education. As the global leader in project-based learning and one of the nation's first engineering and technology universities, WPI is committed to rigorous education that balances theory with practice across its four schools-School of Arts & Sciences, School of Engineering, The Global School, and The Business School. Its 18 academic departments offer more than 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, leading to the BA, BS, MS, MEng, MBA, MFA, and PhD. All WPI undergraduates complete a humanities and arts requirement and at least two significant projects-one in the major field of study and one that addresses an open-ended problem at the intersection of science, technology, and society. Purpose-driven, collaborative research at WPI focuses on four key areas that highlight the technical and societal intersections of these global challenges: the life sciences, smart technologies changing the way we live and work, materials and manufacturing processes designed for a more sustainable world, and global initiatives on campus or at one of its 50+ project centers worldwide. Students enjoy a strong focus on innovation, exploration, and real-world competency as they seek sustainable solutions that have the greatest technical and social value for communities around the globe.
