ABOUT KEAN UNIVERSITY Founded in 1855, Kean University was the first public post-secondary institution and first teachers college in New Jersey. Today, the University's six colleges offer more than 50 undergraduate degrees, seven doctoral programs, and 70 options for graduate study leading to master's degrees, professional diplomas and certifications. Under the visionary leadership of President Lamont O. Repollet, Ed.D., Kean became the state's Urban Research University in 2022. With state-of-the-art facilities and strong faculty and student support for research, the University is working to achieve R2 Carnegie research classification. Kean students enjoy small class sizes, one-on-one attention from faculty and advisers, enriching academic support programs, ample research opportunities starting in freshman year, and an active, global internship network. Dedicated to promoting equity and access to a college education, more than 40% of Kean's students are first-generation college students. Kean is a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution and is ranked top in the nation for veterans by the Military Friendly School survey. For several years, U.S. News & World Report has recognized Kean for the social mobility of its graduates and the diversity of its campus community. Kean faculty are known for teaching distinction, scholarship and service. Kean is one of the largest metropolitan institutions of higher education in the Northeast.
