HTIC will accept high school Advanced Placement (AP) course credit as transfer credit to HTIC if both of the following criteria are met. - An official course description or course syllabus must be submitted for evaluation to confirm the equivalence to a course offered at HTIC. - The student must earn a final grade of "C" or higher in the AP course and receive a minimum score of 4 (on a scale of 1-5; 5 being the top) on the AP exam. AP exam scores of 3 are considered for credit on a case-by-case basis.

Liberal Arts and Sciences/Liberal Studies

Hawaii Tokai International College (HTIC) was established on May 22, 1992, as an American two-year liberal arts college. HTIC is authorized to operate in the State of Hawai'i under the Hawai'i Post-Secondary Education Authorization Program, and since June 1994, has been accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. HTIC offers an Associate in Arts degree. Graduates of HTIC are from Japan, Republic of China (Taiwan), Republic of Korea, People's Republic of China, Federated States of Micronesia, Peru, Brazil, Germany, Vietnam, Mongolia, and the United States. Hawaii Tokai International College was founded by Dr. Richard H. Kosaki, one of Hawai'i's most respected educators and a former University of Hawai'i Vice President and Chancellor for Community Colleges. In accordance with the educational mission of TES, Dr. Kosaki envisioned a small liberal arts college with a strong emphasis on the learning community concept and a deep appreciation for intercultural understanding. Dr. Kosaki retired as President of HTIC in 1997. The concept of the learning community continues to be the hallmark of HTIC's educational programs, strengthening the College's role as a gateway for students interested in bridging the educational systems of the East and West.
