From the Institution

New College of Florida provides a unique, high-quality liberal arts education preparing graduates for an unpredictable world ahead. With over 56 majors, students choose from a wide variety of course work in the natural and social sciences and humanities. Our beautiful campus is located on Sarasota Bay, Florida. As a student at New College, you will work with your faculty advisor to design an individualized academic plan that includes our broad core curriculum and challenging classes toward your specific degree. You will build an academic contract each semester with your faculty advisor and experience hands-on learning through mentorships, internships and research projects - the kind of learning students don't typically experience until graduate school. Every New College degree culminates in a senior capstone project or thesis, which may be a research paper, film, or art exhibit that you design as your own grand finale. Along with traditional courses, you'll explore new subjects through labs, tutorials and Independent Study Projects (ISPs). As in the real world, where performance evaluations are the norm, your professors will give you in-depth narrative evaluations on your performance in each class. Your coursework review highlights your success, shows your promise, and offers constructive critique on your shortcomings. A public liberal arts college offering generous academic scholarships, we offer many of the benefits of a private, small liberal arts college experience with personalized curriculum, small classes, close student faculty relationships, individualized career planning, and graduate-level research opportunities all at a cost comparable to Florida's affordable public universities.
