The California Military Department GI Bill Award Program is available to qualifying members of the California Army or Air National Guard, California State Guard, and the California Naval Militia. Students who are planning to pursue a professional certification, associate, bachelor's, or graduate degree for the first time are welcome to apply. Recipients are chosen for their adherence to all program requirements.

Requirements
  • Active member in the CMD throughout the participation period in the Program
  • Resident of California as determined by the institution
  • Seeking a first professional certification, associate, bachelor's, or graduate degree (only obtain one degree) from a qualifying institution in California
  • Agree to not receive a Cal Grant award check for the same academic year
  • Maintain enrollment in at least 3 academic units per term
  • Agree to serve two years in the California National Guard, the California State Guard, or the California Naval Militia upon completion of the last academic period
  • Agree to complete course of study within 10 years of initial acceptance into the program
