Requirements
  • For purposes of this program, the "legal field" is defined to cover legal secretaries (including receptionists), legal assistants (including paralegals), court reporters, and law office administrators; it does not cover law school.
  • The program is open to 3 categories of students: 1) graduating high school seniors who completed secretarial or business courses in high school and are planning to enroll in a college or business school that offers a course of study in the legal field; 2) students who desire a career in the legal field, have completed at least 1 year of college, and will be enrolled during the following year in a college or business school in a course of study in the legal field; 3) students who will be enrolled in a college or business school in a course of study in the legal field either because they desire to reenter the workforce after a prolonged absence and require training or specialized education or because they have been in the workforce for a number of years but desire to enter the legal field and require training or specialized education.
  • Applicants must reside and attend school in California.
  • Selection is based on the desire for a career or position in the legal field, academic achievement, financial need, personal characteristics, aspirations, and goals.
