The Fool Soldier Scholarship is awarded to descendants of the Fool Soldiers, a group of Teton Lakota men who ransomed the freedom of two white women and six children held captive by a band of Dakota Indians in 1862. Students who are planning to attend a college, university, or a technical school and demonstrate financial need are welcome to apply.
