Frank Budd, M.D. Scholarship provides financial assistance to residents of designated counties in Minnesota and Wisconsin who are Vietnam veterans or relatives of those veterans and interested in attending college in any state.

Requirements
  • This program is open to residents of Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St.
  • Louis counties in Minnesota and Bayfield and Douglas counties in Wisconsin.
  • Applicants must be 1) a graduating high school senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who is the child, grandchild, niece, or nephew of a Vietnamera veteran; or 2) a Vietnam veteran or relative of a veteran who has completed at least 26 academic credits at an accredited college, university, or vocational/technical school and has a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • All applicants must be enrolled or planning to enroll fulltime.
  • Selection is based primarily on an essay, up to 500 words in length on a topic that changes annually but relates to the Vietnam war; recently, applicants were asked to write about "Operation Babylift 1975," including an interview of a veteran regarding his or her opinion.
